BLUE AGAVE ABSTrAcT no. 1 and no. 2

For one of the world’s top hospitals, I was commissioned to create a 28 foot long diptych comprised of two 30” H x 168” W x 2.75″ D mixed media wall sculptures. Consisting of strips of stained and silvered glass and resin, the mosaic sculptures are mounted on intricately layered canvases of wood. Referencing the natural beauty of the southwest, this project is inspired by the image of blue agave fields amidst mountain terrain and blue sky. The abstract design evokes the southwestern flora with its color palette, organic shape, and row-like composition. The lengthy diptych is intended to usher the outdoor world inside and its shimmery luminescence brings a welcoming tranquility to the expansive first floor entrance. Additionally, the blue agave concept echoes the property's beautiful desert landscaping and the abundance of succulent varieties that adorn the lobby walkway.
